Backend Services Engineer

We are hiring Backend Services Engineer for Sweden.
Job Summary:

We are looking for an experienced Backend Services Engineer to join a team working on highly scalable, reliable, and privacy-focused backend services operating at massive scale. The role involves designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining distributed backend services, with strong ownership across the full service lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Java, distributed systems, concurrency, scalable web services, data storage, caching, and automated testing. Strong problem-solving skills, technical communication, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities are essential.

Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent professional experience. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain highly scalable and reliable backend services.
• Manage backend services end-to-end, including design, production deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance.
• Develop services capable of handling large-scale customer-facing workloads with strong availability, reliability, security, and performance.
• Collaborate with multiple teams and manage cross-team dependencies while maintaining quality and delivery standards.
• Adapt to changing priorities, evolving requirements, threat models, and partner needs.
• Build frameworks and reusable components for internal teams and developer communities.
• Investigate and debug complex concurrency, scalability, and production issues occurring under real
• world load.
• Analyse system behaviour and identify performance, reliability, and availability issues.
• Write clear technical documentation, design documents, and technical decisions.
• Communicate technical concepts and decisions effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Integrate automated testing and CI/CD practices into backend development workflows.

Technical Skills & Expertise:

• 5+ years of production experience in Backend engineering.
• Deep expertise in Java, including Java memory model, garbage collection tuning, and concurrency utilities beyond basic synchronization.
• Strong experience building and scaling customer-facing web services.
• Knowledge of authentication, authorization, availability, spam control, reliability, and performance tuning under load.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts, including consistency, partitioning, and failure modes.
• Experience with data storage and caching technologies such as Cassandra, Redis, or Memcached.
• Experience developing REST-based services using frameworks such as Netty.
• Experience with CI/CD tools and fully automated testing.
• Knowledge of cryptography standards and protocols, including PKCS, KMIP, X.509, AES, KDF, and CA.
• Familiarity with machine learning systems, frameworks, and algorithms.
• Experience with GitHub and build/deployment tools such as Maven, Docker, Spinnaker, and Kubernetes.
